Across Edinburgh College’s four city campuses, it has an extensive range of facilities that not only provide college students with excellent real-life working environments but also offer high-quality, low-cost restaurants as well as hair, beauty, exercise and leisure amenities to our local communities.
Students on each of our academies programmes are also given access to the facilities to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence.
Our beauty salons – The Studio at Granton Campus, The Salon at Sighthill Campus and Bliss at Milton Road Campus – provide students of the Hospitality and Tourism Academy with authentic working environments.
Our two working restaurants – The Apprentice at Granton and EH15 at Milton Road, each of which has state-of-the-art training kitchens – are used by students of both the Hospitality and Tourism and Food Science and Nutrition academies.
Students at the Creative Industries Academy have access to the Performing Arts Studio Scotland (PASS) at Granton, CRE:8 at Milton Road’s film and music studios, and the Music Box music centre at Sighthill.
The Club at Milton Road, which is home to a gym and spa, and the Centre for Sport and Exercise at Sighthill also provide facilities for academies students.
In addition, the college houses classrooms and lab spaces to ensure students’ practical and theory studies are accommodated fully.
QUEEN MARGARET UNIVERSITY, EDINBURGH
QMU’s modern campus offers Academy students an attractive, sociable and welcoming space in which to study. All of the academic space is under one roof at the Musselburgh campus located just off the A1.
Depending on which classes/lessons are being offered, Academy students may have the opportunity to use the large 250 seater lecture theatre, specialist labs and clinics including the impressive nursing simulation suite, drama workshop rooms, video edit suites, group study rooms, as well as a whole host of classroom spaces and social meeting rooms. At the very heart of the campus is the Learning Resource Centre, a high tech library space, where many QMU students choose to do their own self-directed study.
The main academic building also has an excellent food hall called ‘1875 and a shop, which Academy students are welcome to use. In the summer time, QMU students often enjoy eating and relaxing on the deck outside which overlooks the water feature. An impressive sports centre with games hall, dance studio and outside astroturf pitch is also located across from the main building and can be used by students, staff and the local community. The main building is positioned right next to the student village which houses 800 single study en-suite bedrooms in self-contained flats for three to six students. The village is surrounded by attractive landscaped grounds which include a SUDs pond, which is often home to lots of birds and other wild life, and a ‘trim track’ which can be used for exercise.
